We’re currently celebrating Speech Pathology Week at The Kids!
Speech pathologists play a vital role in helping kids develop skills they need to make their needs known.
At CliniKids – The Kids’ first clinical service – we work with many children who show their voice in different ways. Some kids use verbal language, while others may use sounds, gestures, eye gaze or pictures to communicate.
How can you help your child to develop their communication skills? Scientists say we can help kids build healthy brain architecture through ‘serve and return’ interactions. This is when:
- ๐ง a child reaches out for interaction (‘serves’)
- ๐ง and the caregiver responds (‘returns’)
A classic (and fun!) serve-and-return game to play with your children is the chatterbox.
“Chatterboxes are a great way to connect and communicate because they turn everyday interactions into playful opportunities for language development,” Speech Pathologist and CliniKids Clinical Services Manager Theresa Pastor said.
This Speech Pathology Week, you’re invited to come into our Discovery Centre to make a chatterbox. Create a kid-friendly way to communicate – no matter how your child voices their thoughts and needs.
