The Kids Research Institute Australia is thrilled to bring our much-loved STEM Festival to Kalgoorlie this August, in conjunction with National Science Week 2025. We’re excited to deliver two fun-filled days of STEM experiences for local children and families.
What’s On
There will be a range of exciting activities at the Community STEM Festival afternoon on Day 1, including:
- UV Beads and Sunscreen Experiment - Discover how sunscreen protects our skin using UV-sensitive beads in a colourful, interactive experiment.
- Sugar in Drinks Activity - Learn about the sugar content in popular beverages through a visual comparison that encourages healthier choices.
- Microscope Activity - Take a closer look at the human body. Kids can explore what organs look like on a cellular level and even view their own skin cells using a surface microscope.
Or, come along on Day 2 and register for the Delicious DNA workshop, where children will learn about DNA and even extract it from strawberries so you can see it with your eyes.
It also provides families with a valuable opportunity to connect with passionate researchers and scientists from The Kids Research Institute Australia and other local Kalgoorlie organisations such as Curtin University, Gold Industry Group, Kalgoorlie Museum, and Engineers Australia.

Senior Manager, Community Engagement at The Kids, Belinda Frank, said the Institute was proud to bring the STEM Festival to Kalgoorlie following the success of Broome.
This event is all about sparking curiosity and encouraging creativity in young minds through fun, hands-on STEM experiences. Bringing STEM to Kalgoorlie is especially meaningful as it helps ensure regional families have access to the same opportunities as those in metropolitan areas.
