The Kids Research Institute Australia welcomes the passing of the Western Australian Future Fund Amendment (Future Health Research and Innovation Fund) Bill in State Parliament today to support health and medical research and innovation in WA.

The milestone legislation will give Western Australian health and medical research a secure and ongoing source of funding that includes an initial commitment of $37 million over the next three years.

The Kids Research Institute Australia Director Professor Jonathan Carapetis said the passing of the legislation was great news for WA families as well as the research sector.

“There are many families in this state whose future depends on breakthroughs in medical research," Professor Carapetis said. "It is good to see the state government continuing to increase its commitment to health and medical research and innovation.”

“Western Australia has a thriving health and medical research sector with world-class facilities and some of the world's leading experts right here in Perth.

“We know that money invested now in improving the health and wellbeing West Australians will have a lifelong effect and bring continued benefits to not only kids, but the broader community.”
