John is a PhD student with the Infectious Disease Ecology and Modelling team at the Kids Research Institute and the Population Biology and Genomics team at Curtin University. His research focuses on modelling the spread and control of the recent invasive malaria vector Anopheles stephensi. John has a background in parasitology, particularly how parasites’ genetic diversity and population structure shape their epidemiology and control. He is also interested in research commercialisation, having evaluated the commercialisation potential of monoclonal antibodies developed against parasitic infections. Currently, John aims to integrate his parasitology experience with modelling to answer key public health questions, especially in developing countries where research infrastructure and funding are limited.
Before joining the Kids Research Institute, he worked at Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute in China, assessing the therapeutic potential of epigenetic changes during the developmental transition of the tapeworm Echinococcus granulosus.
John holds a PhD in Preventive Veterinary Sciences from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China (2020), a master’s degree in Biomedical and Molecular Sciences with Business with Distinction from the University of Dundee, UK (2023), a master’s degree in Parasitology from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (2015) and a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Ambrose Alli University, Nigeria (2012).
